Through Kit

UCL Boxing had a problem most university sports clubs don't acknowledge. Their kit didn't reflect what the club actually was. Generic branded polo shirts. Sublimated training tops from catalogue suppliers. The kind of gear that communicates convenience, not conviction.

When they came to Aureco, the brief wasn't complicated. They wanted to look like a serious boxing club. Not aggressive — serious. There's a distinction that matters in sport. Serious means committed to the craft. It means the kit earns its place, rather than simply being worn.

The brief

The brief resolved itself quickly: compression base layers for training, hoodies for warm-up, and a team identity that worked both inside the ring and on campus. UCL Boxing is a social club as much as a sporting one — the kit needed to carry both contexts.

We developed a custom kit run across three styles — the Compression Top, Training Hoodie, and Compression Shorts — with UCL Boxing's identity applied alongside the gothic Aureco mark. The approach was deliberate: we don't erase our identity to serve theirs. Both marks live on the garment, and that relationship communicates something real about the partnership.

What happened

The order shipped four weeks after design sign-off. Sixty-two members received their kit ahead of the start of term. Within three weeks, the club's Instagram presence had meaningfully changed — members were posting training content, pre-fight warm-ups, and casual campus shots in the Aureco kit.

The identity effect was exactly what they'd asked for. A boxing club that looked like it took the sport seriously, because it does. That's what institutional kit should accomplish. Not just functional — representational.
